With little notice to the public, last week an important decision - TopicsExpress

With little notice to the public, last week an important decision was made in the Pacific Northwest. Despite environmental and public concerns, the Port of Seattle agreed to become the home port for Shell’s Arctic drilling fleet. Needless to say, there are many reasons to end drilling in the Arctic Ocean in 2015 and beyond – Shell’s history of Arctic bumbling; the harshness and uncertainty of the Arctic climate; the unique wildlife that calls the Arctic Ocean home; the complete inability to respond to an oil spill in this remote region. Check out this op-ed from former Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, and Annie Leonard, Executive Director of Greenpeace USA on why Seattle’s port commissioners need to re-think their decision.
