With many allegations of police brutality floating in the media, there needs to be some balance. People who serve at war and in our streets protect the best and confront the worst that our society offers. The risks they take are real. Regardless of the discipline and quality of training, mistakes happen: an officer fails to wait for backup and dies; an officer mistakes an object for a weapon and someone else is hurt. One of my brothers, now retired from a municipal police force, knows things are never as clear as they might seem to people watching the news.
