With much of the U.S. experiencing dangerously low temperatures, Im reminded of a trick that Iowans taught me when I taught at the Univ. of Iowa. At night and if youre not at home during the day, leave a faucet slowing dripping (four or five drops a minute). This keeps water moving in the pipes and helps to stop the pipes from freezing. Theres no proof that this works, but the alternative is so terrible that the slowly dripping faucet is worth considering.
