With my executive functioning ability, something as simple as a - TopicsExpress

With my executive functioning ability, something as simple as a phone call or email can take me days to do; its not that I am lazy or procrastinating, but that I feel some unexplainable blockage. Somedays it feels impossible to open a letter, a package, or write a check for a bill. Logically, I cant pinpoint the feelings of wanting to avoid the tasks. But there is definite fear and avoidance. However, once I am on a roll, and starting to perform executive tasks, such as addressing an envelope or locating a receipt, I get a confidence and an energy boost to continue onward. Often, the first task seems impossible, until I have performed the task and I wonder why I had such resistance. This is always like this; it doesnt change. Sometimes I can make up a stimming or organizing game to accomplish things. This can help. But overall, simple tasks can actually frighten and immobilize me. ~ Samantha Craft, Everyday Aspergers
