With my life long friend reaching the big 3 0 a few months before myself I cant help but to think about my journey. Memories come rushing back of things I have not thought about for yeaars. Some may say cho u still young (which we indeed are) but to us we are 30 OMG!!! LOL. From very humble beginnings I started. With a mom who is determined to see her 1 daughter turn out better than her. So from early I was taught God is the center of all things and that education is key. I remember my big brother coming to get me after school at The Salvation Army basic an how he would but me on his neck, happier than me u couldnt find with my back pack and my little tin lunch pan. How my brothers would seh wine Nedra wine ,when they put me in the school carnival group now at St.Anns Bay Infant with Aunt Margaret Tait as our leader. After graduating going to the best primary school in Jamaica yes St.Anns Bay Primary. In grade 1 u was placed in Ms. Watkins 1,1 but later moved to 1,2 because the class was too crowed. I was crushed. Pop mi first fight in grade 1 after boy me mi fren si dung pon pencil. Grade 2, of course I went to 2,1 where Oraine Thompson and I cursed everyday till my classmates use to sing stop the fighting, so early in the morning lol. Grade 3,1 Ms James taught us the Daniel In the Lions Den song and how I told Dready Ballistic Robinson that I was wet from the rain when really I peed on myself because dem seh duppy up a toilet and I was afraid to go up there. Grade 4,1 Ms Wong class, work getting harder but we werent phased, preparation started because a lot if us were told we would be skipping grade 5 because of our achievements. Then came her car accident we were devastated. Grade 6,1 are in THE Ms Patricia Gardeners class were we were told welcome to 6,1 were u are Creme De la Creme home of some of the brightest kids in the school. We got morning, evening and Saturday classes wuk woulda kill we. How she beat the whole 75 of us on the day when she introduced algebra to us. When she reached Terando Hinds and she blurted out the answer to the problem she got beating still cause she took too long. How when she beating Omar Armstrong she said boy mine u tear my pantyhose and how I rain granny come fi him out the class fi do him 1 chore , watering the flowers. Common Entrance time and we had to bring our birth certificate, the bomb dropped,Jiggy Don is not Jamaica born what a piece a sinting, the boy act like him neva tek a plane, baddest pastor pickney. Lol. Exam day and I sat there praying Lord Im working to go to York Castle High because them seh a so so lesbian go St. Hildas ( no offense to my Hildas freinds). Result day , Nedra Small, York Castle High. Im over joyed, mi run out the school gate to go tell my brothers and the rest of my family, reached my eldest brother first, he picked me up in the air and said mi hear already sis with pride and joy in his voice. On to YC. 9 years old going on 10 over the summer. WithStephanie Johnson, Omar Armstrong, Oraine Thompson, Jiggy Garel,Dwayne Forbes (RIP), ONeil Hemmings (RIP) and a host others. Love u all. People say this a day that about Jamaica but it has the best educational foundation a kid can get. My journey continues, will share the rest in the future, probably when Im turning 40 or 50.
