With no ownership over how to do things correctly and working only from my own point of view, and learning experiences, I have tips on have conversations that might come in handy for some people as these are situations I find myself running into time and time again. How to Have a Conversation Tip #2: We tend to give people more flack than we give them slack. This offense as defense maneuver can instantly cause aggressive conversations and judgment to spring up out of thin air. If you’re surprised by some seemingly offensive thing said by another person, quickly apply historical and contextual information to the situation to see if you’re interpreting it incorrectly. Plus, words can change meaning depending on inflection and the person delivering them. Basically, give someone the benefit of the doubt, which translates to believing something good about someone, rather than something bad, when you have the possibility of doing either. Unless you have some reason to reject that benefit of the doubt with that particular person, you have no reason not to give it.
