With only a week to go I would like to take this opportunity to - TopicsExpress

With only a week to go I would like to take this opportunity to end my public debate on Facebook. I have had many great debates with many people and I am still happy to do so via messenger, text, phone or face to face. Anytime just give me a shout and I am more than happy to look up information for you. I have been reading both sides of the debate and coming to my own opinion, but with one week to go I think it’s time to leave the extreme media attention and last minute propaganda alone. I am nervous, very nervous, as it is now something that means so very much to me. With the research I have done, the reading, the videos the movies and the debates, I have moved from an entrenched position of No to the hopeful modern socialist vision of Yes. I have many reasons why I believe in this nation to go it alone, taking our place in the world and being allies with our neighbours. I have a real belief in our abilities, the human and physical resources we have. Despite that of course there is uncertainty; Id rather the uncertainty was in our own hands and not in the hands of someone else. We have a different economy here, a different political environment and a different social attitude to life. Its not bad to be different... But sometimes ideals clash and taking that leap, we have all made at least once in our lives, could be the making of us. Who really knows what they are getting into when they apply for a job, when they buy a house or even when they start a business? For all the facts and figures it’s our own drive and determination that will make the real difference and that will shape our future. So before you vote take a deep breath, think beyond the millions of counter claiming facts and dream. Think what may happen in 20 years time - think what a Scotland inside the UK could achieve and then think about what an Independent Scotland could achieve. The facts that actually were facts now will have changed, the politicians will be retired (unless still in the UK house of Lords), we will be older and the instability will have been replaced with it being the norm. Look at history and look at what has happened before. For me I look at the nations that have gone Indy since the end of the empire, I look at the lies told during the 79 debate that could have significantly changed our nation. I look at nations around the world and the elements of that I want back in my own country. Do the same, ask yourself what has the most potential, the chances are with any bet it’s the one with most risk that gives you the biggest return. Scotland has the opportunity to start again, to become the nation we should have been. The opportunity to start a journey of shaping a country, through the good times and bad, working towards a better, fairer future. We are politically engaged more than any other nation at any point in history. Let us grasp this moment with both hands and make the most of it. Either way, the 19th will be a tough day; the nation is split we all know that. So be mature, celebrate with those on the same side as yourself or commiserate together. Leave those who you have debated over the last two years to come to terms with either the moment they dreamed about or their nightmares. If Scotland votes Yes next week I will be happier than I have ever been… I will be respectful about it. If not I will be unashameably gutted and wish to be left alone to re- address my focus as I imagine you would too. Enjoy this process as either way it will be the most monumental vote in our lifetime… Just Vote.
