With only a week to their nationals, LUMS decided to take their practice up a notch by inviting PU. This is the first time in the past 4 years that LUMS invited PU to their home court for a match; however, the two teams met twice this year with PU taking both matches comfortably. Punjab showed up for this match with a small squad and without their starting squad. This would prove to be a crucial disadvantage as the match progressed. The match started and immediately PU put LUMS under pressure. It would take some time for the home team to find their rhythm but when the time came, they would put the guests under some serious pressure. Shariq, after missing some initial shots, started raining three pointers as he found his form on his home court. Some associate his bad start to the fact that he was upset no one woke him up for a match at 5pm; whatever the reason, he would play a brilliant game on both sides of the court. PU proved to be a team with a lot of resilience in them, as Hussain and Adnan were almost impossible to stop. However, due to the lack of guards, these players often found themselves triple teamed. Nonetheless, they kept on scoring as Hussain would play brilliantly in the paint despite the intense defense on him. The story of the day though has to be the offense of the LUMS team, as all 6 main players clicked today and contributed to the overall tally. After a great first half, LUMS lead by 21 points. The second half would prove to be no different. PU was finding it difficult to function without their guard and were working hard for every point. LUMS, playing on their home court after some time, were making the most of that advantage. Fardad proved difficult to guard by the PU team and would ensure that LUMS moved at smooth pace through the game. The trump card in the second half was Hanan Ajma, who would go on to score some terrific layups and do some excellent defense. All in all, LUMS would keep the pedal pressed till the end and would take the match by a commanding 25 points. This is the first time in recent history that LUMS would beat Punjab University. The second match of this series has been postponed to next week. And now, for the much awaited awards: Player of the game: Shariq Dhanani Best Offensive Player: Fardad Baig Best Defensive Player: Hamza Naseem Best hide-and-seek move: Fardad Baig Best Dance moves: Shareef Khalid Best Moulin Rouge: Naseer Uddin Khalid National to start from next week, stay tuned people!
