With over $15,000 on the line, here is everything you need to about the chase for the 2014 Montpelier Motor Speedway Championships this Saturday night! Midgets Tate Martz – Tate and car owner Greg Steele, has had their Beast/Esslinger dialed in for the rain shortened 2014 season with three second places finishes with a single worst finish of 8th. For Tate, it will mark his first full Midget Championship while Greg is a former championship USAC Midget car owner on pavement. Tate will look to put an exclamation point on his 2014 Midget points season by parking the black 2 in victory lane on September 27th feature. Alex Watson – Alex has been involved in the Midget series since its inception three seasons ago and has gradually stepped up his experience and moved to bigger horsepower cars each season. To claim the 2014 championship, Watson will need a 5th place finish with Martz receiving only tow points or a no show from Martz. UMP Modifieds Derek Losh – Losh has been a force to reckon with since he began competing in East Central Indiana winning more features than anyone in the Modified division at MMS since 2010; however, a championship has eluded Losh despite all of the wins. Losh maintains a 34 point advantage over Anderson and 44 points over Sherman and needs a third place finish or higher to clinch his first MMS title. Owner of tie breaker with 4 wins. Tony Anderson – Anderson came out swinging in 2014 with a new car and engine winning the opening Early Season Shootout and another two races for good measure. Anderson led the biggest bulk of the championship season until a wrecked car at another track left the crew searching for answers. Anderson currently is 34 points away from a Modified champion needing to finish 17 A Main positions better than Losh on Saturday. Todd Sherman – 8-time MMS Track Champion Todd Sherman is always an odds on favorite at the Montpelier Motor Speedway as no one has won a Modified Champion other than Sherman since Kevin McCarty did it in 2007. Sherman currently sits 44 points away from a championship requiring Losh to be buried deep in B Main to claim enough Championship points along with being 5 positions better than Anderson. Oddly enough before the rain came on September 20th, Sherman was the only championship contender qualified for the A Main event as both Losh and Anderson were both B Main bound in a stacked field. Sherman has three wins on the 2014 season at MMS. Super Streets Tony Anderson – Anderson success in stock cars over his career is probably unmatched in Indiana and Ohio and Tony will look to add another Super Street Championship to his 2014 resume with a 52 point advantage over Super Street rookie Jami Cale. Anderson will merely need to start the September 27th A Main event to claim his 6th MMS Championship. Owner of tie breaker with 8 wins. Jami Cale – Jami has been knocking on the door of her first Super Street feature win all season running toe to toe with the heavy hitters of the class. Jami is currently 52 points from the lead and will need to finish 4th or better with Anderson earning tow only points to claim her first Super Street championship. Jami is the only female track champion scoring a 2005 MMS Track Street Stock Championship. Thunder Cars Ervin Turner – Ervin finally wrestled the championship points lead away from Jerald Owens near midseason. A three sweep of wins in May relegated Turner to the tail of the next feature, but the win streak put Turner back into championship contention. Turner currently holds a slim 22 point advantage over Owens and a 30 point advantage over Nutter. Owner of the tie breaker with 7 wins. Jerald Owens – Jerald not only dominated the opening weeks of 2014 by picking up back to back feature wins to begin the season, but also was the point’s leader until midseason. Heading into Championship night, Owens will need to finish 11 positions better than Turner and 5 better than Nutter to claim his first MMS Thunder Car Championship. Kaleb Nutter – Kaleb gave his 2014 campaign a big push near mid season picking up a convincing feature win on July 19th over an always fast Thunder Car division. Kaleb has consistently been in the chase throughout the 2014 season and will need to finish 5 positions better than Owens and15 positions better than Turner to clinch his first MMS championship. FWD Compacts Brandon McDaries were probably the only team in the pits that wanted the rain to end the September 20th event as the cancellation of the program clinched his second consecutive FWD championship. Mod Lites Willie McFarland – Willie currently holds a slim 10 point advantage over Todd Padgett. Although winless in 2014, McFarland has used consistency to maintain a point’s lead deep into the season. McFarland will merely need to finish one position ahead of Padgett to claim the 2014 MMS Championship. Todd Padgett – Todd broke into the win column in 2014 by picking up two feature wins. Todd currently sits 10 points back from McFarland will need to finish 5 positions ahead of McFarland to clinch his first MMS track championship. Owner of tie breaker with 2 wins.
