With recent talks of Sony and Marvel trying to work out a deal for Spider-Man, and the many criticisms of Amazing Spider-Man 2, I hear rumors that the series will be cancelled and the character will go back to Marvel Studios, and will be featured in the upcoming Avengers movies. On the contrary, I believe all those rumors to be false, especially since today, Sony announced that they will be doing an Aunt May spin-off. Though, many of you will think that an Aunt May movie would be stupid and boring, Im pretty sure it would be quite opposite. With all the backstory of Peters parents we have seen so far, Im intrigued to see more of that. And part of the details of this spin-off says that it will be about espionage. Also, it has been announced, that along with the Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs, there will be a female-hero-centered spin-off called Glass Ceilings. Felicia Hardy was introduced in ASM2, therefore it could involve Black Cat. Also, another rumor is that it could involve the recent issue of Edge of Spider-Verse, where, in another universe, Peter died, instead of Gwen Stacy, and she became Spider-Woman. So, with all this hub-hub still going on about these spin-offs, Im pretty sure that Sony isnt quite ready to hand Spidey over, regardless of the flack they got for their last movie. Now, I have expressed many times that I would love to see Spider-Man in the MCU, but portrayed by a different actor, and let Sony continue on with their own universe; the Spidey of two worlds, if you would. Back in the Eighties, two James Bond movies were released: one with Roger Moore, continuing his streak, and the other brought back Sean Connery as an older Bond. Recently, Robert Downey Jr, whos been very good at giving us little hints here and there, tweeted a collection of pictures featuring the Avengers portrayed by their respective actors. Though, one picture was of Tobey McGuire and Stan Lee from the very first Spider-Man movie. Could it be that the deal that Sony is working out with Marvel is to bring Tobey back and annex his movies into the MCU? If so, that would be sa-weeet! Many people think that Tim Burton should do a Dark Knight Returns movie with the return of Michael Keaton, that would parallel Batman v Superman, which looks like will heavily involve said story arch. And Micheal Keaton is all for it! His new movie, Birdman, is basically about such. Anywho, the moral of the story is, my prediction is that Tobey MacGuire will return as the MCUs version of Spidey. And, hey, Peter was older when he joined The Avengers.
