With respect, Mr Buchan...unless youd be willing to live under a Hindu theocracy, or a Buddhist one, assuming they became a majority, you shouldnt be advocating for the lines between church and state to be blurred. Why? • It’s in the constitution – we are not to discriminate on the basis of religion, and theocracies have never managed to avoid doing so. • Theocratic nations are, as a rule, backward, horrible places to live. • Calling an organization/country “faith-based” is a way to rationalize discrimination. Denying leadership roles to women and gays is not a legitimate value. • Educational policy becomes enmeshed in religious dogma. • Theocracies tend to encourage anti-intellectualism. If facts contradict the holy book of a particular faith, then the facts get questioned instead of the book. This is like the tail wagging the dog. • Nobody should have to fake belief. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” gatewaynews.co.za/vote-for-unashamedly-christian-party-says-angus-buchan/
