With the 4th pick in the 2014 NFTGL redraft, Bill Summerfields - TopicsExpress

With the 4th pick in the 2014 NFTGL redraft, Bill Summerfields agent releases this transcript of a short press conference held in secret this morning: Coach Summerfield (CS) takes the podium……… CS: I want to start out by saying that the past month has been a very tumultuous time for us coaches here in the NFTGL. As everyone knows 9 out of the 10 teams decided to move in a different direction after many seasons, including the reigning champion, New Orleans Saints. I am aware of the recent speculation in my search for a new job and have seen the conflicting reports out of both Green Bay and New Orleans. CS: With that said, I would like to announce that I have signed a 6 year contract to take over as head coach of the New Orleans Saints. I am not going to get into specifics of the contract, nor any of the speculation that Coach Bordier was dismissed as a result of his uneasy relationship with All Pro God CB Eric Allen. With that said I will open the floor for a few questions. REPORTER: Coach, with all the speculation out of Green Bay, have you spoken to them and if so what made you decide to come to New Orleans instead? CS: I was in contact with Green Bay and they did offer me a 6 year contract to take over as coach. After talking it over with my family, I felt it was best for me to accept the New Orleans job instead. I thank the Green Bay Packers for their offer, and this in no way is a slight at them, they are a first class franchise. REPORTER: Coach Summerfield, since you are now head coach of the New Orleans Saints, would you care to address the other speculation that All Pro God Eric Allen has agreed to return to the team? CS: I will address that. I spoke with Eric earlier in the week. After we sat down for a few hours, I assured him that he would start with a fresh, clean, slate if he were to return. Eric has agreed to return to the Saints and will be in our lineup opening day. REPORTER: Coach, what were some of the football issues that made you choose New Orleans over Green Bay? CS: Having Eric return was a big part of that decision. I would also add that the pressure of living up to Coach Bordier’s winning tradition that he created here also was a part of the decision. This franchise has a solid history and I plan to continue that. REPORTER: Coach, when did you know it would be New Orleans? CS: Like I said, Green Bay is a top notch franchise. However, after meeting with Chris Everett and Michael Haynes last night….. JIM EVERETT: Coach, its Jim. CS: My bad. CS: So, as I was saying, After that meeting, I felt this offense can be special and with Eric returning I really feel this is the place for me to take my coaching skills to that next level. I thank you all for attending, I look forward to August and the upcoming season.
