With the Detroit Movement Electronic Music Festival this weekend we wanted to give a shout out to one of our very own, Lieutenant Keith Martin. For 30 years, Keith Martin has been rockin the house as a Club and Mobile DJ. His desire to DJ began in the early eighties when he and DJ Art Payne, formed a DJ company while they were students at Eastern Michigan University. Cranking up a powerful sound system combined with skillful mixing, they were the popular choice among party-goers at college campuses throughout Michigan. Keith joined with Ricks All American Cafe, helping them achieve Ann Arbors best Happy Hour Award for 3 years in a row during his tenure as the DJ. He also joined forces with Techno pioneers Juan Atkins, Derrick May, Kevin Saunderson and Eddie Fowlkes as members of a sound company named “Deep Space”. Together, they introduced a new era of music known as “House” and/or “Techno” to Detroit. While returning home to pursue his passion for House music, he also became a Detroit Fire Fighter. Not only performing with prominent House DJ’s and Promoters, but also established his career as a club DJ incorporating R&B, Old School, Funk & Hip-Hop.
