With the July 29th deadline for submission of public comments on Governor Brown’s controversial Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP), the Delta Counties Coalition formally responded today – and clearly outlined why the multi-billion dollar proposed tunnel project is fundamentally flawed on multiple levels related to environmental and economic impact, cost, design, feasibility and impact on farms, homes, water and land. Delta County Supervisors described some of the BDCP’s fundamental flaws including: 1. Denying taxpayers and ratepayers a vote regarding the public financing of the project estimated in the range of $25 billion to $67 billion. 2. Omitting key and relevant information required by the law to understand how the BDCP will actually be implemented operated, and funded. 3. Allowing State and Federal Water Projects to violate water-quality standards in favor of increasing exports. 4. Relegating the DCC to a non-voting Stakeholder Council which is simply unacceptable as a central part of a Delta Region that would sustain negative economic impacts. Contra Costa County Supervisors Mitchoff and Piepho are doing a superb job advocating on our behalf with respect to this issue.
