With the World Championships in Eagle River this weekend I - TopicsExpress

With the World Championships in Eagle River this weekend I thought tonights History Lesson Friday should be a Team Arctic champ sled. This champ 440 was built by John Hooper the Moyle Racing crew and driven by #66 Gary Moyle/Moyle Racing. This sled used a ZR 440 Sno Pro bulkhead that was totally reworked and was attached to a very custom tunnel. This machine uses an offset front suspension. The track is a 106 oval race track and it uses a short purpose built rear suspension. The track is driven through the windows with large drive sprockets and large rear Idlers which help drastically reduce rolling resistance. The chaincase length was a very big part of this sled as the long chaincase was needed to get the perfect chassis length. The cooling system is very unique as it is actually a shelf heat exchanger in which you pour snow through a hole in the top of the tunnel and as you run it melts off. The original engine was a highly modified 440 built by Hooper Race Engines but it currently has an older Black Magic champ engine in it. The slide lube system originally used oil as lube that was pumped using the engines oil pump but currently we have it set up as a gravity feed system. This particular sled finished second in Eagle River in 2006. This sled is currently raced by my brother but when we are finished with it, it will be cleaned up put back to the way it came and put in our collection. We purchased this sled from the Moyles in 2010 as I was going to race it on the M.I.R.A. Racing circuit. Since purchasing this sled I have bought and rebuilt 2 more sleds from the Moyles both of which have been shown here on our Facebook page. The Moyle Family and Team are great friends and Im very glad to have this machine in our collection. I hope you enjoyed this History Lesson Friday. Good luck this weekend to Gary, PJ, Colt, Larry and all of the other Team Arctic Racers!
