With the ceasefire and withdrawal from Gaza taking place – the residents of Gaza Envelope are planning to establish a protest encampment in Wohl Rose Park in front of the Knesset in Jerusalem. The demonstrators claim that the reason for the protest is a lack of military or diplomatic accomplishment against Hamas in Gaza. In the past hours the demonstration has been organized through Facebook and WhatsApp groups, by residents of the Kibbutzs Nir Am, Ein Habsora and Ein Hashlosha. In practice the rocket fire hasn’t ceased for one moment, and the tunnel threat which we have feared so much has become realistic and concrete more than ever, the organizers explained. According to them, the demonstration is not politically charged, and the solution could be either militaristic or political: In practice we are going to return to a reality much more complicated and frightening that the one we left before the operation began. We wish to return to a reality in which we leave for work in the morning and can leave our children is kindergartens and schools without fear of a tunnel opening up and our kids being slaughtered. The drizzling of the occasional rockets is a problem that needs a solution, and one that the government takes for granted. It should start treating the residents of the south as a part of the country of Israel. According to the residents the protest encampment is not the only step, they are planning additional moves starting from a protest encampment in the Knesset compound and ending with shutting down the education system for the upcoming school year. One of the demonstration organizers Merav Cohen, a mother of four from Ein Hashlosha, told Channel 2 News that even though she is taking an active part in the struggle she cannot actually participate in it. This is due to the fact that in the past weeks she has been staying with family in Hazorea Kibbutz, for the fear of returning home. I participated in the protest also two years ago during Operation Pillar of Defense, and we had realized that we are in an area which is easy to forget about, and we are not receiving the answer we demand, Cohen told disappointingly.
