With the commemoration of our Easter rising which began with small band of men taking on the violent and merciless forces of the British empire and leading to formation of the Free state we enjoy today. Surely a video showing the British Queen, Paisley and Cameron is in very poor taste considering the horrendous torturing, death and the ultimate courage of the great men and women of 1916. Surely this is a time to celebrate that courage. Celebrate the amazing sacrifice these people made so we may be free from a tyrannical administration that watched us starve and many more atrocities. Why do we need the apparent inclusion of foreign politicians and monarchies in what is a pure Irish celebration. Why does Enda Kenny feel he needs to tip his cap to them? In America they celebrate their Independence Day without any shame. They celebrate Washington crossing the delaware, they celebrate the Boston Tea party, They celebrate Paul Reveres ride to tell the minutemen that the British were coming, They celebrate the reading of the proclamation of independence from British rule. What do we do? We rehash a poor tourist advert with pictures of British monarchy and British politicians. I have nothing against either of these but they have nothing whatsoever to do with our celebration of our struggle and finally gaining our independence at massive personal cost to those who attained it.... I personally think it looks to whitewash our heroes of 16 out of this celebration. I think it is a slap in the face to families of these fallen heroes.
