With the death of Robin Williams, the topic of suicide and depression has frequently come up. Questions are asked, primarily how such a well respected individual could do such a thing despite everything he had and all he has accomplished? The answer is simple. He is human, he was the same and you and I. He was the same as those who have or are fighting depression. I call depression the cancer to the mind, for it progressively gets worse and is difficult to cure(if it can truly ever be). Most of all I empathize and understand those who feel like theyre trapped inside this box that seems to be gradually getting smaller. That even if you may have everything another person or even a whole culture may say should make you happy, it doesnt truly mean anything if you still feel empty. There was a point in my life where I was like this. I hid it from everyone, because I had heard the same thing over and over; people who are depressed are weak, if you commit suicide than youre going to hell, think about your family and everyone who cares about you, think of all you have. Looking back at this now, I realize how black and white these things that were said are, for they made no difference to the condition I was in. It wasnt until a separate moment in my life that my perception had began to change and I realized what I had to live for. For those out there who may just need to talk or want a new source of advice, I am here to do my best. Know that many feelings, no matter how long or painful they may be, are normal and eventually will pass. Remember that you are never alone.
