With the freelance site I use, potential clients can see your rating, the number of jobs youve done, in what categories, and they can click to see specific details about the types of jobs depending on their level and what information is public. Ive done a wide range of stuff on and off the site. The more of any one genre or category you do with a high rating, the more offers youll get in that category from client invites. I did a lot of academic papers for a while which got me more people looking for that. Then, I started getting a few African American clients for biographies and some urban-themed work. Now Im getting a lot of invites for similar jobs based on those jobs and my rating. Im happy for any work, but it strikes me as curious. There are freelancers from all over the world and I have a picture up that people can see what I look like - shaved head, crazy beard, white. So, today, a magazine consordium invited me to bid for writing an article for a music magazine on hip hop. I gave a competitive bid and suggested that I would write about Ice-T reuniting Body Count. There is no telling who is really writing much of what you read out there.
