With the frigid temperatures lately, we want to remind everyone that the Leavenworth Interfaith Shelter of Hope is now open. Do put the word out so these folks can find some shelter and a warm bed. The Homeless shelter is located on the second floor of Catholic Charities, 716 N. Fifth Street. Volunteers are appreciated. Donations are much needed. Specifically, they are in need of the following items: travel-size personal hygiene products such as bars of soap, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion, and lip balm. Gently used or new blankets, twin sheets, pillow cases, wash cloths and hand towels are also welcome. You can drop these items off at WELCOME CENTRAL, 314 Delaware Street between 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., Monday to Thursday. If you’d like to volunteer to work at the shelter, please, get in contact with Sister Vickie Perkins at 913-530-4535. This is an all volunteer shelter. The shifts are three and a half hours and start with the set-up shift at 8 p.m. In addition, the Catholic Charities of NE Kansas (located at 716 North Fifth St., Leavenworth, KS) are in need of the following non perishable items: canned fruit, peanut butter, jam & jelly, pasta, pasta sauce, mac & cheese, tuna, ramen noodles, cereal, kool-aid, jello, pudding, and other nonperishable products to restock their shelves. Please deliver food donations to 716 North Fifth Street. Thank you! (Information in this article provided to us by Immaculate Conception/ St. Joseph Church) *All rights reserved.
