With the invitation of the Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus (EECMY) Wycliffe Global Alliance commenced its annual Leadership meeting here in Addis Ababa. The Wycliffe Global Alliance is a mission organization whose objective is to provide support to churches and Para church organizations that are engaged in Bible translation and language development. As a welcome for the Wycliffe Global Alliance Leadership, the Church hosted a reception at Gudina Tumsa Wholistic Training Center. Rev. Dr. Wakseyoum Idossa, President of the Church expressed his delight to welcome the participants to Ethiopia, especially to this reception event. The Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus is always grateful for the partnership it has been enjoying with Wycliffe Global Alliance since 1973- which has now counted 41 years, he explained. Truly, this relationship has proved to be the most successful and fruitful one and we believe that God has used this connection for furthering of His Mission both in Ethiopia and beyond, the president added. The late John Vendor Samuel –former Executive Director of the Wycliffe, initiated the relationship with the EECMY. The courageous steps he had then taken to talk about Bible translation and language development even in the then prevailing hostile political situation in Ethiopia will always be remembered. Dr. Emmanuel Abraham, former president and now president Emeritus of the EECMY, together with the later Rev. Gudina Tumsa, former General Secretary of the Church, joined John Vendor Samuel in laying a lasting foundation that allied us to engage in meaningful mission tasks. We are again grateful that the Lord has further led us into a new dimension of the same relationship that allowed the EECMY to continue as a participating partner of the Global Alliance; Rev. Dr Idossa expressed his happiness. In this connection, we also want to acknowledge the recent development in Mission Partnership between the Six partner organizations (Ethiopian Evangelical Church Mekane Yesus, Ethiopian Kale Hiwot Church, Evangelical Church Fellowship of Ethiopia, Word for the world, Summer Institute of Linguistic, Bible Society of Ethiopia) that are cooperating in the Comprehensive Planning Project (CP) which indeed has invigorated our already existing ecumenical commitments, the president concluded. Wycliffe Global Alliance Leadership is an executive governing body of the alliance that meets at least once a year at various places including Singapore, Bangkok and Africa.
