With the issue of ISIS, and many other Middle Eastern disputes finding their way to the news recently I think its important to remind everyone that there is a very real, very important distinction between what ISIS claims are Islamic intentions, and anything related to the actual faith Islam. Ive heard a lot of misunderstanding over the years as various Islamist groups, and occasionally certain Middle Eastern governments, have been in the news. The urge to otherize all those from that area and lump in the religion with those who abuse it for propaganda can at times be very strong. In the face of that urge, I would suggest this, surprisingly upbeat, Crash Course with John Green (Author of Fault in Our Stars, and the wonderful host of Mental Floss) Detailing the historical rise, and basic tenets of Islam.
