With the last day of school only one day away, just a reminder that the school board will vote on Privatizing your drivers on Monday June 17th at 6 p.m. Goodrich drivers ask that you share this post and they invite everyone to attend the meeting to gather the facts. Savings over Safety? And the savings are not what you may be lead to believe. The bids were published in our local paper over the past week and 3 out of 4 bids came in "thousands of dollars" over what Goodrich currently pays drivers. The bid that they will consider "may" have a potential savings of 20-24 thousand on the FIRST year of the contract. The board chose last year to remove privatizing from the agenda when the savings came back that low originally. Just another reminder, we all know that initial savings on the first year are expected, however, there are increases penciled into the remaining years of the proposed bid that will exceed current monies spent by the end of the contract. These bids do NOT include field trips or athletic trips. Goodrich drivers have always been grossly underpaid according to other districts in Michigan. They remain dedicated and loyal because they serve the community in which they live. Privatizing hurts the community and jeopardizes the safety of our children.
