With the loss of Carol Ann Susi, the producers of THE BIG BANG THEORY have a problem. They have so thoroughly established Mrs. Wolowicz as a character in her own right that they cannot simply write her out and pretend she never existed -- her presence is a large part of Howards character. Myself -- if I were a producer on that show -- Id create a story arc about Howard having to deal with his mothers sudden unexpected death. Remember, Mary Tyler Moores show won an emmy when they did the episode about the death of Chuckles The Clown -- it was the funniest half-hour of television that decade, as well as the most moving. For TBBT to do such a story arc would not only honor Carol Ann as a larger-than-life presence, but it would also open some enormous story possibilities as each of the other characters would get to confront their own mortality and the mortality of their parents. And Howard himself would have to come to terms with his own ferocious relationship with his mom. I have no inside information on this, on what the producers intend to do next, but I do hope theyre courageous enough to recognize the opportunities here, both dramatic and comedic.
