With the news tonight of Robin Williams, I find myself thinking of the suicides of so many of our LGBTQ youth. These beautiful children are taught by parents, or friends, or teachers, or religious leaders to loathe themselves. It is drummed into them that who they are inside is evil, and that they must somehow change. The fight for marriage equality is only the beginning. We will never be finished until every person is taught to love and accept themselves, and to recognize the beauty of who they are. Depression is no joke. It can steal from us the lives of anyone, be they famous or not. If you see someone being mistreated, speak up. Let them know they are loved and that no matter what anyone in their lives tell them, there is a whole wide world of people ready to love them exactly as they are.
