With the polls closing in less than 10 minutes, here is a look at the candidates on the ballot today in Lewis County. GENERAL ELECTION 2014 LEWIS COUNTY By Dennis K. Brown Few local political races are contested for the General Election today in Lewis County. County Clerk Glenda Himes provided this list of candidates vying for seats in todays election. Matt Ginn and Bill Tom Cooper had filed for the Vanceburg mayoral race. Cooper died on October 26. His name, however, remains on the ballot since it was too late to get the ballots and machines changed. Running for the six seats on Vanceburg City Council are Karen Fraley, Chris McGlone, Shane Hull, Kathy McCann, Matt Jarrells, Marc McCane, Tim Bowden and Aaron Gilbert. Unopposed for Mayor of Concord is Jerry Walker. Carol Campbell, Lovell Polley, Lynda Polley and Sheila Walker are the Concord City Commission candidates. Running unopposed in county races are Tom Bertram, county attorney; Johnny W. Bivens, sheriff; Anthony W. Silvey, PVA; Michael D. Ruggles, surveyor; Tony Gaydos, coroner; Todd Ruckel, judge executive; Glenda K. Himes, county clerk; and Jeff Lykins, for jailer. Running unopposed for constables are Matt Dyer, District 2; Larry L. Colley, District 3; and Rickey Tanner, District 4. Unopposed magisterial candidates are Terri Thomas, District 1; David Iery, District 2; Woody Underwood, District 3; and Steven D. Applegate, District 4. Bill Bertram and Jerry Bloomfield are seeking Soil and Water Conservation supervisor seats. Lewis County school board candidates are Chuck Swearingen, District 1; Cindy Applegate, District 2; Sarah Willis, District 3; and Michelle D. Skidmore, District 4. In the race for US Senator are incumbent Mitch McConnell, Alison Lundergan Grimes and David M. Patterson. Incumbent Thomas Massie is being challenged by Peter Newberry for Fourth District US Representative in Congress. Rocky Adkins is unopposed to retain his seat for 99th District State Representative. Joy A. Moore is unopposed for Judge of the Court of Appeals, Sixth Appellate District Second Division. Also unopposed are Circuit Judge Robert B. Conley, Family Court Judge Jeffrey L. Preston, and District Judge Brian C. McCloud. Voters will choose between Teresa L. Cunningham and Michelle M. Keller for Sixth District Supreme Court Justice as well as between Allison Jones and Justin Sanders for Sixth Appellate District Judge of the Court of Appeals, First Division.
