With the posting of all my recent pictures to Honduras, I - TopicsExpress

With the posting of all my recent pictures to Honduras, I reflected back on my thoughts while I was in the air, returning to the USA. What is a missionary really? I asked myself. As a whole, we think of a missionary as one who steps into a foreign country and pours into the lives of people. But, I began to think outside of that box. I see a missionary who has their life opened and poured into by God, and then God will ask them if they are ready to spend time with those that HE loves. Although no one particular really and truly desires to leave the comforts of their homes to go and see or spend time with others in a less fortunate place, I feel that miraculously, when you do, and when you get there, THEY somehow fill me with a new and refreshed power than youve ever felt before. (it happens every time I say, YES, I will go) Its about being trusted, by them and its about you, trusting. A missionary is someone who loves God more than personal gain and more than the land that many want to possess. A missionary is someone who looks and finds a place where they can PLANT a tree(trees for me, are like people) and watch it grow and allow time and tenacity to gain the limbs of the tree, so it will one day bear much fruit. Not because of what you can do, but because of what they believe they can do because of HOPE and FAITH and TRUST in FAMILY. A family that God places in their lives, and yours! This is about the family we take to them, and the one they build in US. A missionary isnt just a short term mission trip..to take a trip, but rather to cultivate a desire to reach people, some less fortunate and some fortunate, who just simply need partners….to come along side. It is not their World that brings me to them, but rather my World that needs to share the love for them and that they also want to give and then I quickly receive. As I was growing up and missionaries came to our house, ate with us, conversed with us and share their lives with us, I never really appreciated until the last few years that missionaries are not typical, they are actually more common than you might realize. A Person On Gods mission, sees, hears, and does things by faith in everyday life and then begins to build with power from Christ alone, all that He would do in everyday life. Isnt that what we are to do, right here in our own land? So, I asked myself while I contemplated another missionary journey now behind me; I want to be a person always on a mission to serve. So, in essence, I guess Im common, and thats just OK with me.
