With the recent measles outbreak in Camarillo Id like to remind people to make sure you and your kids are vaccinated! The virus can stay alive for hours on surfaces which makes it one of the most contagious diseases! This disease was almost completely GONE in 2000 but has come back due to lower vaccination rates. Remember, some sick people cant get vaccines so they rely on others to be vaccinated (herd immunity.) With complications, it can cause pneumonia and other serious side effects such as 105 degree fevers. So vaccinate, vaccinate vaccinate! SYMPTOMS TO LOOK FOR: A high temperature, sore/itchy eyes (conjunctivitis), and a runny nose usually occur first. Small white spots usually develop inside the mouth a day or so later. A harsh dry cough is usual. Going off food, tiredness, and aches and pains are usual. If you have these symptoms, visit a doctor as soon as possible. If the symptoms are really serious go straight to a hospital. Avoid contact with other people. keyt/news/CSU-Channel-Islands-Confirms-a-Case-of-Measles/30890970 Any other questions: Ventura County Health: (805) 981-5221
