With the release of the Valley Uprising trailer (bit.ly/1lBjPsN), heres a #TBT to our shoot on El Cap few years ago with Tommy Caldwell. We spent two weeks on the wall with him documenting his attempt to free The Dawn Wall in a push from the ground. The Dawn Wall is a big character in Valley Uprising, and the scene of one of the most legendary Yosemite climbs of all time. In 1970, Warren Harding and Dean Caldwell (no relation) spent 28 days making the first ascent, aiding up the steepest and blankest section of El Cap. They weathered epic storms, fought off an unrequested helicopter rescue, and became national heroes when they reached the summit. Now, 40 years later, Tommy and his partner Kevin Jorgeson think The Dawn Wall can be free climbed, and have spent the last few years working it out pitch by pitch. Weve gone up shooting with them several seasons, and this particular year got caught in a big snowstorm. We felt a little bit like Harding up there, but these days its a lot more comfortable living on the wall with modern gear. The North Face Clif Bar Goal Zero Petzl Black Diamond Equipment Ltd .
