With the support of the European Union, private tree farmers such as Mr Vianney Aryasasira of Besepo Uganda limited, seen in the picture below (centre) have made committed investments in the forestry sector, boosting rural incomes and helping to mitigate climate change. A family run business, Vianney and his father Mr Posiano Besesa are one of the pioneer beneficiaries of the Sawlog Production Grant Scheme. Since 2004, with support from SPGS, the family has planted 1,337ha of trees. Thats more than 4sq miles of trees!! The major species planted are Pinus caribaea and Eucalyptus grandis.
