With this major winter storm predicted to result in heavy icing and snow, Mayor Carolyn Comitta has declared a snow emergency to be effective midnight tonight, February 4th, and will remain in effect until 1:00pm tomorrow, February 5th. Residents and businesses should recall and be aware of snow emergency procedures and regulations. In a snow emergency vehicles parked along snow emergency routes must be moved or they will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Additionally, snow emergency declaration information can be obtained by calling the West Chester Public Works Department 610-696–5282 and the West Chester Police Department 610-696-2700. Snow emergency routes are marked with red and white signs and include portions of streets such as High Street, Gay Street, Market Street, Price Street, Chestnut Street, Marshall Street, Wayne Street, Hannum Avenue, Church Street, Walnut Street, Miner Street, Rosedale Avenue, S. Franklin Street. E. Nields Street, Lacey Street and S. Matlack Street. Residents need to verify whether they are on an emergency route by checking the signage on the block. Some blocks do not await a snow emergency declaration and are automatically in that status when snowfall exceeds four inches, so again, it is important to check the signage on the block.
