With use of a few words, steady assurance, and moral certainty, one of my republican right wing friends calmly stated that the minimum wage law should be repealed. I did not experience difficulty following my long standing rational decision to never argue with these people. His rationale, no pun intended, centered on an argument that the minimum wage law was never intended to provide sufficient income to provide a citizen with a living wage. And, I think, something about it not being good for the economy - though I am not certain about this second "reason" as I was literally losing chunks of seconds, dumbfounded by his ease in proscribing his opposition to the minimum wage law with absolutely no thought as to the effect such an act of cruelty would inflict on millions of his neighbors. No thought. His yearning to return to the "old deal" contained not a scintilla of reservation. Again able to focus on his Marshall Applewhite pathway to 1931, I put together a few coherent nueronal flickers. With the exception of a few elderly folk, Americans only know of one deal, the New Deal, and continue to add new New Deal neighbor-helping legislation, periodically, in certain decades. The New Deal transmission has no reverse gear. The old deal, when it was the only deal, was a lie. And, as Dr. King stated "A lie cannot live forever" and thus the old deal passed on March 4, 1933. Where do these people come from? Becoming an Old Dealer with words alone, mere thoughts, not warm, suffice for these unfortunates, without neighbors, almost not whole beings. Almost.
