Withatreecoveroflessthan5 per cent, Ahmedabad has always been a challenge for environment and tree lovers. But challenges do not deter the determined. As part of its quest to have a huge tree cover in the city, Ahmedabad Mirror in association with Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority is launching Evergreen Ahmedabad campaign on Friday morning. The campaign to plant about 60,000 trees on Sardar Patel Ring Road will kick start at 9 am on August 9 at Tapovan Circle, Fun Point Restaurant in the presence of Urban Development Minister Anandi Patel. Otherdignitarieswhowillremain present on the occasion are AUDA Chairman Dharmendra Shah and Sadbhav Engineering Ltd Chairman Vishnu Shah. Plantations will be done over five weeks starting August 9. Hundreds of school children, citizens, officials and dignitaries will take part in the drive. On August 11, saplings will be planted on the stretch of approximately 14 km between Ranasan and Khoraj whereas plantation on approximately 22-km stretch between Khoraj and Sanathal, 20 km area betweenSanathalandRamoland20km area between Ramol and Ranasan will be carried out on August 11, 18, 25 and September 1 respectively.
