Within the Islamic society of Iran, it has always been difficult to differentiate what is permissible and non-permissible in the fields of science, art, and literature. Therefore, censorship in these areas is readily evident and presupposed. In Islamic society in Iran, in order to justify censorship in various aspects of social affairs, virtually everything holds governmental secrecy and is therefore in collaboration with the political administration, extraordinary committees, commissioners of national affairs, the ministry of government security, and the committee of government security. All researchers and writers are aware of these censorship activities. No scientists, lecturers, or artists have the right to take their complaints to the county’s judicial personnel. Judicial systems and related individuals also have no right to demand explanations from officers responsible for censorship. Any complaints regarding censorship are widely considered as costing the pursuer his mental and physical elimination. In Islamic society in Iran, any complaint against censorship is considered by the Islamic government as opposition to their political system, and therefore they brand those who make the complaint as enemies of the state and treat them very harshly. Censorship in Islamic society in Iran has even influenced classic poets and writers such that their materials have been totally purified for their own consumption. Khomeini, in his time, said the following in relation to censorship: “Censorship considers itself to have come to assist the press, which has fallen ill. But in reality it does not diagnose the illness, and as an illiterate practitioner, instead of providing a cure, it dissects the unwanted organs, which will naturally result in the further deterioration of the whole body.”
