Without Prejudice July 9, 2014 00:15 AM Live from Allion Elementary school located at 140 9th Avenue in LaSalle. Update; I have contacted the Quebec environment ministers emegency line and spoke with mr Yvan Goulet who confirmed that an inspector from environmemt Quebec will be on the scene early this morning to assess the damage. For now, we are looking at multiple piles of contaminated soil laced with hydrocarbons that are sitting in the Allion daycare and elemntary playground beside a childrens park that is adjacent to the school. The soils have been here since at least 1 PM yesterday. These soils were removed from Allion elementary school allegedly due to a leaky oil tank that has been contaminating the schools soils for an undetermined amount of time. What we do know now is that the soil is now covered with a white plastic tarp that is simply being secured by cinder blocks. There is no security agents or preventative measures on site and the smell of oil is literally everywhere in the air....It stinks like high hell of oil and I can still taste it in my sinuses 15 minutes after being in front of the pile.. Now imagine the fact that this soil was pulled from under Allion Elementary school where kids were exposed to it for an undetermined amount of time and the school was doing nothing about it until forced to do so. The oil has also started to leak into the sewer system due to the fact that a sewer IS FEET AWAY from the contaminated soils and oil is currently making its way in with help from the rain. The park is also less than 10 feet away with no gates or fence to hlock access to this contaminated soil and potential health risk. With a risk of severe thunderstorms this evening, I will be keeping an eye on the situation and keeping you updated as further developments occur in this developing story.
