Without a World Series win since 1908, Chicago Cubs fans don’t - TopicsExpress

Without a World Series win since 1908, Chicago Cubs fans don’t have much to feel happy about. But one thing that could always cheer them up was the eternal optimism of “Mr. Cub,” Ernie Banks. Over a 19-year career, his team never made the post-season, but he was an 11-time All-Star with 512 home runs. It never went to his head, though. He was cheerful, gracious to fans, beloved by Chicago, and as President Obama said, a great ambassador for both the city and the game. After he hit his 500th homer, he famously said, “The riches of the game are in the thrills, not the money.” Ernie Banks died Friday at 83. Let’s hope his attitude about baseball never dies. We sure could use a big dose of it today.
