Without being considered political or politically correct or incorrect...the Ebola current issue...is a huge concern for many US citizens now. Over the past two weeks many hospitals across the U S have had ER scares where a patient has come in with symptoms that required attention including being put in an isolated room until more verification was done to determine if they should be tested or going on to do the testing. Please take a moment to pray for all of the public servants who are in the forefront of caring for the citizens of this nation. EMS, Firefighters, Policeman, and then the medical staff are all on the frontline of the battle. And yes now it has become a battle of a microscopic organism that can not be seen. As a biology educator the last few years that I taught, one of my lessons was a thought processor where we discussed that as a child we fear large monsters, spiders, snakes, aliens and things of this nature....but as we get older we realize one of greatest foes will/can be/might be a microscopic organism that can not be seen. When I taught the microbiology lessons in the Biology I classes and the AP Biology, we always had lessons on the hard core viruses and bacteria that are known to exist in the world. Ebola was one that I always spent some extra time discussing with the students, but always with the hope that we would never see it here. Now not only is it here, but it is a 2 hour drive from here or wherever else. Ironically the Presbyterian hospital that has been ground zero is the hospital where I have had my last three MRIs done for the tumor that I have. And yes I will admit, I probably will not use their imaging center again, and will look elsewhere for that particular style of machine for a while....more just because there is that hint of fear. Am I an alarmist...no! But right now the biological brain says no to going there. Sadly this hospital is a great place, but was the one that was chosen by the original patient. Now on to our airplane industry...it has just been reported that the newest patient took an air flight on Monday....why was this person not told to not fly until she was beyond the timeframe of showing symptoms? There are so many aspects to this that we are watching unfold in front of our eyes. My prayers are for all of those who are in the forefront of this situation and I encourage each of you who do pray to lift up prayers for all of those who are having to deal with this deadly, unseen, microscopic killer!
