Without feet but with hands, Tick-tock is all you’re willing to say, Chasing the slow to make them hurry, Slugging the fast to make them slowdown, Everything having to operate within, The confines of your dictates, Silent witness to all of life, Seeing but feigning ignorance, Waiting to be called upon to testify, When history is put on the dock, To recount the deeds and misdeeds, From antiquity to the eternal, Repairer of the broken, Ever present ever listening ever attentive, Silent companion to the lonely, Never too fast nor too slow, Neither much ahead nor far behind, Ever timely in your operations, Narrator of untold tales, Archivist of men and women’s deepest secrets, Life’s sole accurate point of reference, Respecter of no persons, kings nor queens, Without feet but moving steadily day in day out, With your mysterious ticking hand.
