Without going into the details, our Sun creates one hundred, trillion, trillion, trillion Helium atoms every second, but not a single one of them reaches the Earths surface. Helium is, of course, the lighter-than-air gas that we use to fill ballons for our kids and then breathe in so that we can speak with a squeaky voice. Every single atom of Helium used in a balloon has been created here on Earth by a rare natural process; its not something mankind can manufacture... Helium is used in lots of hi-tech such as MRI scanners and semiconductor manufacture, but in recent times, the amount available has been in short supply and prices have been increasing. So dont be too surprised in the coming years if the price of Happy Birthday balloons floats off into the unaffordable range...
