Without offending the sub judice rule, let me say that the Uwera case now before the High Court is a case of many firsts. It is perhaps the only criminal case to my knowledge in which the Police Cheif, Kale Kayeihura and the Attorney General, Peter Nyombi (doesnt surprise many) have sought for and advised an out of court settlement! It is also the case only criminal case to my mind in which the Attorney General, Peter Nyombi has offered an opinion in complete interference with the independence of the Director of Public Prosecution. Now the Deputy Cheif of Police Intelligence and Investigations turns up in court as a defence witness and testifies against the State in a criminal case instituted by the State (DPP). The DPP has to cross-examine the Deputy Police Intelligence and Investigation Cheif in an acrimonious manner as is always the case in cross-examinations. If all these is not strange, i do not know what is!
