Without pedestrians make roads and streets in Port Moresby too - TopicsExpress

Without pedestrians make roads and streets in Port Moresby too dangerous and risky for people to cross but why? Pedestrian overhead bridges and pedestrian traffic lights are critical safety features for people; preventing accidents and control the smooth flow of traffic in cities and towns. It it an integral part of city planning, engineering, design and construction. Subsequently it forms part of the regulations and standards for city planning, designing and construction. You will normally find them in busstops, schools, supermarkets and markets or such places where pedestrian demand is high. If you now look around our towns and cities in PNG, pedestrian is simply not part of the development plan and growth of our towns and cities. Its very scary for people and children both able and disable risking their lives crossing the busy roads before fast moving vehicles. Its very dangerous yet the political leadership and planning authorities simply dont care about the safety and wellbeing of the people when constructing roads. Whether it is the lack of regulations and standards or non performance of the appropriate planning authorities, 38 years is too many years without it. Generally, it reflects the standard and quality of leadership PNG had for the last 38 years. We cant wait for time to change things naturally. It is men who change things with time as they desire and according to their plans. The political and bureaucratic leadership in this country simply dont think big and beyond when it comes to development, though they make big budget plans and boast about the continued economic growth of the country. Their approaches have been always temporarily and on adhock basis without proper long-term planning and consequently driven by greed for wealth accumulation and royal lifestyle that everyone wants to live when elected into parliament by poor voters. In the absence and/or lack of proper planning, their temporarily approaches have resulted in substandard and poor quality infrastructures yet they have been kept preaching about them knowing well that it wont last long. Today the political leadership is preaching about the PNG LNG and how its billion dollar revenues will transform this country. They are simply lying. The political leadership is the same that we had since independence. The same politicians whom under their watch had witnessed the disappearance of billions of kina under the pretext of running the country are still in the drivers seat. What is the guarantee that they will do it differently unlike 38 years ago. They have been liars and robbers. Vote all of them out in 2017. This country can do better without them.
