Without power for three days, once again. And, as usual, for some reason, the power company (Commonwealth Edison, here) refuses to even discuss burying their cables, so the power doesnt fail us every time the wind blows. And, even after the power came back on (ComEd was so kind to send text messages to my cell phone, to update me every few hours, and remind me that I had no electricity, no water [electric well pump], no toilets [same], and once again, a thousand dollars worth of spoilage occurring before my eyes), Comcast experienced some unknown problems locally, so even when I had electricity, I still had no land-line telephone, no internet service, and no television service for an additional half day or so. At least the weather was pleasant, and being Summer, I was able to retrieve buckets of water from my piece-of-crap swimming pool (stagnant without the pump running), to gravity-flush the toilet. Its becoming an annual event in this neighborhood. And requests for reimbursement for the costs of spoiled food only return notices from the power company of commentaries pointed at acts of God, and matters out of their hands, their control, and their responsibility.
