Without speaking at ALL to the quality of BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY or whether or not I thought it was a great show or a bad show or a whatever show... Im totally confused by the sentiment of this piece. Werent there quite a few musicals on Broadway this year with original scores? Was BRIDGES really the only new musical with a classic Broadway score? Did IF/THEN or GENTLEMANS GUIDE or ALADDIN or FIRST DATE or ROCKY have scores that possessed a sound or a spirit that was rock or experimental or anything that wasnt a traditional theater score? (I actually feel like BRIDGES was less traditional in its sound than a few of those.) Is this piece saying that Broadway ticket-buyers want contemporary-sounding scores instead of more classic, show-tuney scores? Is Carol King contemporary? Isnt Beyonce someone who is contemporary? Has anyone ever confused a Carol King song and a Beyonce song? Would BRIDGES have been a hit if it featured the songs of Kanye West?
