Without strong and effective regulation, there are no free - TopicsExpress

Without strong and effective regulation, there are no free markets. A market is only free insofar as one party or small faction is not able to manipulate supply sufficiently to control prices. At the point where conditions of scheduled shortage exist, consumers are forced to accept a lower-quality noncompetitive product at an inflated cost. Who gives a damn if the beneficiaries of such a screwed-up situation are stockholders or a Politburo? Does it really make a difference?
