Witness for Peace Northwest Internship Announcement 2013-2014 Witness for Peace Northwest is excited to announce that we are looking for one or more interns/volunteers to assist our Field Organizer in our Portland office for the 2013-2014 school year. Witness for Peace is a politically independent, grassroots organization. We are people committed to nonviolence and led by faith and conscience. Our mission is to support peace, justice and sustainable economies in the Americas by changing US policies and corporate practices which contribute to poverty and oppression in Latin America and the Caribbean. We stand with people who seek justice. Witness for Peace Northwest encompasses the 5-state region of Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, and Alaska, with their office in Portland, Oregon. We work in solidarity with our partner countries of Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Honduras, and Nicaragua, and focus our efforts on campaigns around free trade & globalization, militarization & the drug war, immigration, and normalizing relations with Cuba. For more information, please look at our website at witnessforpeace.org. Interns will need to commit to a set number of hours per week when they will work, but the schedule is flexible and much of it can be done remotely. Internships are unpaid. The following is a list of some possible tasks that an intern could be asked to work on: · Database creation and management · Planning fundraising events · Coalition building with local and regional partners · Communications management, including the possibility of writing for our blog or newsletters · Membership outreach · Grassroots education events · Legislative advocacy An ideal WFPNW intern will be self-motivated and already somewhat aware of global justice issues. Reliable access to phone and email is a necessity; there are no computers available for interns so they must have access to one on a consistent basis. Basic word processing and computer skills are required. For more information, please contact Amy Truax, Witness for Peace Northwest Field Organizer, at [email protected] or 206 787 0657.
