Wiz Khalifa - Blacc Hollywood (2014) 1. Hope ft. Ty Dolla Sign (3.5/5) (Starts off with a lengthy monologue from Taylor Gang OG Chevy Woods, then goes into a song that sets the tone for the rest of the album, pretty much. Also the Ty Dolla Sign feature here is pretty pointless if I do say so myself.) 2. We Dem Boyz (4/5) (First time I heard this I wasnt really feeling it, but it gets better the more you listen to it (and the more intoxicated you are, haha)... Im only reviewing the standard edition of the album, but the remix, which is on the deluxe version, might be the best song on the whole thing, Wiz, Ross, Q and Nas all kill it. AND its a way smoother beat. Nuff said.) 3. Promises (4/5) (R&B Wiz shows himself here; song is pretty damn smooth, and Wiz has been showing his vocal chops here. Hes not the worst singer alive but it could be better, and it fits the mood here.) 4. KK ft. Project Pat & Juicy J (3.5/5) (Shame this is the sole Juicy J feature on here. I usually love when the two of them do songs together but this isnt the banger it could/should be. Its cool though.) 5. House in the Hills ft. Curren$y (5/5) (One of the standout songs on here. Wiz has his deepest verses on the whole album on this song, and the hook and beat are smooth as well. A verse from his partner in rhyme Curren$y doesnt hurt either.) 6. Ass Drop (4/5) (I feel like I should be grading this song lower than a 4 but the beat is just hella catchy, like a song called Ass Drop should be. However, it seems like he should have had Ty Dolla Sign sing the chorus here instead of doing it himself.) 7. Raw (3/5) (Sounds like something off his previous mixtape 28 Grams, without all of the flair of the songs on there.) 8. Stayin Out All Night (4.5/5) (One of the catchiest songs Wiz has ever done. Say what you want about this type of rap music but the man can make a song like this with ease when the time comes. Reminds me of his debut album, the pop rap-oriented Rolling Papers, if you want to know what I mean.) 9. The Sleaze (2.5/5) (See my analysis of Raw. Its worse because he was hyping up the word sleaze on twitter for who knows how long, making it seem like a song with this title would change the whole game or something. Oh well.) 10. So High ft. Ghost Loft (5/5) (Now THIS is what Im talking about from Wiz! Smooth beat, catchy hook, weed-oriented lyrics... if you like Kush and OJ or Taylor Allderdice you know what I mean.) 11. Still Down ft. Chevy Woods and Ty Dolla Sign (3/5) (First and foremost, the hook is really good. Other than that, meh.) 12. No Gain (5/5) (Another song reminiscent of mixtape-era Wiz. It should be evident by now that I think thats the best kind of music he brings to the table, and there should be WAY more songs like that on here.) 13. True Colors ft. Nicki Minaj (3/5) (Hook goes on a bit too long. Also Wizs verse is kinda boring. Nicki picks up the slack a bit though.) Final thoughts: If youre a longtime Wiz fan, I will let you know this: this is not his best work by any means. It is not the classic that Kush and Orange Juice was, nor is it even the retail equivalent that his previous album, ONIFC, was. The album sounds a bit uneven to be honest, which is its biggest detriment. A few more songs on here coulda helped that out. As it stands, however, the album isnt bad per se. It does have some gems, which raise the score of the album significantly, and some other songs that are growers.) Score: 3.5/5 Standout songs: House in the Hills, So High, No Gain
