Woe is me! The 4 most disturbing news stories Exclusive: John Rocker is disgusted by ongoing black-on-white criminal attacks John Rocker, a Major League Baseball pitcher for six years, is the author of "Scars and Strikes." After retiring from baseball, Rocker embarked upon a successful career in real estate development. I probably shouldn’t write what I’m getting ready to, but at this point I can hold my tongue no longer. What I’m about to say may offend a great majority of you, but it’s something that absolutely needs to be aired out in a public forum. I may be off the mark to some degree, but in my defense I’ve done a substantial amount of living and experienced more cultures, seen more places and done more things in my life than many could do in three lifetimes, allowing me to gain a vast perspective on many issues within our society. I will be the first to apologize for making such an obnoxious statement, but if you only knew what went on behind the scenes during a career in professional sports, you’d understand. At times I can be moderately eloquent. This will not be eloquent, however. It will be blunt, harsh and to the point. And for that I apologize, but when I consistently observe the escalation of lunacy I can only subdue my emotions and rationalizations for so long. That time has elapsed. I’m tired of watching it! I’m tired of hearing about it! I’m tired of reading about it! I’m tired of the disgusting behavior, the pandering excuses and the pathetic justifications! ENOUGH! ENOUGH! ENOUGH! Every time I turn on the TV or pick up a newspaper I have to witness or read about some despicable circumstance perpetrated by members of the black community. In the last two weeks alone, I’ve followed four of the most disturbing stories I can recall. And I’m quite certain that as shocked as I am today regarding the beating of 88-year-old Delbert Benton; the “thrill kill” of Chris Lane; the point-blank murder of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago and the three-on-one beating of a junior high school student in St. Petersburg, Fla. – I’ll be further blown away with the next cycle of savage behavior that goes largely suppressed by the media and without comment from the president of the United States or the attorney general. I’m tired of hearing this every day. ENOUGH! Black mobs routinely terrorize cities across the country, but the media and government are silent. Read the detailed account of rampant racial crime in “White Girl Bleed a Lot: The Return of Race Riots to America” I’ve had enough, and the American community is not too far behind. I’ve had enough of the rampant black-on-white crime that occurs at a pace 39 times greater than the reverse. Yet where are the Keystone Cops of civil justice when Chris Lane is shot in the back during a jog? Where are those same instigators of social division while the black community far exceeds its per-capita ratio in: high school dropouts, teen pregnancy, single parent households, prison population, welfare receipt, food stamp receipt and nearly every other unflattering social statistic of relevancy? Where are these so called “leaders”?! Where is your voice? I’ve absolutely had ENOUGH! If your “leaders” won’t say it, I will. And before you even answer, I will preemptively make your rebuttal. “The black population has a harder time integrating into mainstream America because of discrimination.” I’ve heard that excuse/justification for as long as I could understand the English language. And to that I have one simple refutation for this “fool proof” logic: the Jewish people. For the last 5,000 years, who has been more persecuted than the Jewish people? Who has been more hated within the great majority of societies worldwide than the Jewish people? Who has been on the receiving end of mass genocide more during world history than the Jewish people? Yet who is more successful than the Jewish people? Who is a better example to follow within every community in which they reside than Jewish people? I have the utmost respect and admiration for the Jewish community and for the trials and tribulations they’ve endured; yet as a people they always seem to triumph. They always seem to be the best, the brightest and a pillar of any community in which they reside. So to put it bluntly, if the Jewish population can overcome 5,000 years of persecution, why does the black community constantly blame all of their societal failures on 400 years of slavery, which only took place as a result of their own people selling them into such slavery? As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and the equality and civil rights victories that were soon to follow, it seems that much of the black community is in a state of consistent decline. Since the implementation of Johnson’s Great Society in 1964, a massive amount of social programs, altered criteria and quotas have been established for one purpose and one purpose alone: to help the black community “overcome.” Despite all of the hand holding and coddling, the black community still retains an unemployment rate double the national average and tops the lists of nearly every unflattering social category one can produce. Now the “woe is me” victimization crowd of Jackson, Sharpton, etc. will contest with every obnoxious, manipulative breath in their bodies that the plague of consistent social failure within the black community is perpetrated solely and hatefully by bigots and racists whose life’s aspiration is to suppress the black community. Despite affirmative action, despite quota hiring programs, despite black-only scholarship funds, etc. the evil white man and his bigoted ways are the cause for all failure within the black community. That is the message the black community has been brainwashed with ever since their “leaders” realized there was no debating such “logic.” Well there is a debate. If bigotry, hatred and suppression were as rampant within the white community as the black community has been spoon fed to think it is, there would be no successful blacks, which we all know could not be further from the truth. When I was playing pro baseball and facing a challenge, I would often tell myself that what I was attempting had been achieved before. It was not impossible, and if it could be accomplished at least once then the feat had the ability to be accomplished every time. It was just up to me to produce. Today, I have several very successful black friends. Were they somehow passed over by the great dragnet of social injustice? Did the evil white man within their great conspiracy collectively decide to give my friends a gracious pass and agree to oppress only others? Or did these men only rise to their heights of success as a result of affirmative action or an altered playing field? (Suggesting this would only get me punched in the mouth.) My friends became successful by following the same playbook that every successful, upstanding member of our society follows. They didn’t buy into that “I’m black and everyone is out to get me” mentality. They proved that if one adopts the victimology mindset, all that person will ever be is a victim. They and many other blacks have succeeded in a world where many are told they can’t or, worse, won’t be allowed to. If it can be done once, it has the ability to be done every time. Many have paved the pathway to success and respect, so to those that have a handful of race cards, stop being a victim, because in this world you are your own problem.
