Woke up this morning thinking about what the artistic landscape would look like if artists of any kind (painters, writers, sculptors, composers) were not allowed to release their work to the public until after their death, and then only anonymously. Their work would be entirely divorced from the facts of their lives, and would be judged entirely on its own merit, and artists would be held to the same standards of behavior as the rest of society. I feel that it would change the conversation about art in subtle but substantial ways.
