Woke up this morning with a confused sadness. Why do I choke up, shed a tear in the shower, feel a little droopy today for a man I never met. After discussing this feeling with a few people this morning I have come to the understanding of why I am sad about the passing of Robin Williams. Movie makers are universal creatures of storytelling. Actors bring faces to the characters we have read in books and wondered how they would sound, they bring us comfort in our darkest moments when all we can muster is a soft pillow and a fluffy quilt on the sofa with some cold and flu tablets. They hold our hand and take us on a journey into the abyss. They make us forget our own lives as they make us remember theirs for the next few hours.They comfort us on awkward first dates at the movies, they help us celebrate family friday pizza nights, they bring comfort to a friend who needs cheering up with a block of chocolate and a funny movie. So dont feel silly or selfish for shedding a tear, dont be sad for the way he left, remember his silliness and pure comedic genius and turn that smile upside down. For that is what he did to us all.
