Woke up this morning with happiness in my heart realizing what my baby girls have done to make it possible for me to go to Terrace for Christmas so I could meet my newest Granddaughter Lily, also my namesake. Then I got a visit from a new health care worker to fill out the necessary forms for funding for my new electric wheelchair. I must say, where the hell do they get these healthcare workers from? She treated me like shit! Her loud voice made me feel like I was an involent, like I was deaf and her attitude really sucked. I tried to explain to her what I do as a volunteer for the Missing and Murdered women and she says, well the government isnt going to care what you do and she totally kept cutting me off. She was mean....she was an east indian woman and asked me about the bundle sitting on the table....Is that sage? I said yes and she says, we drink it like tea. Meanwhile there was a shell right in front of her with some sage in it too....overlooked it obviously.....like this was supposed to make me feel better right. Oh goody you know about our culture....yeah right....by the time she left, I was in tears and I told her, why dont you just take the damn thing....Oh no dont worry....it takes about 6 months for us to get all the paperwork done....and she took off and sat in her car across the street to finish what she was doing....she was so rude and made me feel like shit, like it was my fault I am crippled up....She has absolutely no idea how painful it is to fricken have metal objects put into your body so you can perhaps dream of ever walking again, or the pain I endure every day because of the Ostioperosis that is taking over my bones...What really bugs me is, I will get over this treatment, what about all the others who are suffering who can not defend themselves, belittled and treated like children....she makes it sound like the monies for the wheelchair are coming directly out of her pocket.....talk about humiliation through the health care system. All health care workers should have human rights training and good bedside manners....we have already suffered enough through our injuries, we dont need to be humiliated by people who are supposedly looking after our better interests.....anybody who is suffering from injuries due to accidents that were not even our fault should be treated with dignity and respect like mainstream society. Anyways, I am over it now, had my cry and going to move forward.... Sorry for ranting, just worried about how others are being treated and wondering what options they may have...
